Hike to the Gaisstein in Stuhlfelden
The Pinzgau grass mountains invite you to go hiking and mountaineering. Their natural beauty, paired with varied ascents and inspiring views of the vast Alpine region, lead through the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park in the summer holiday region of Mittersill-Hollersbach-Stuhlfelden. Sporty, experienced hikers are always looking for new challenges. A hike on the Gaisstein in Stuhlfelden separates the proverbial wheat from the chaff. Bräurup summer guests know (and hike) more.
Off to the grass giant!
A Gaisstein hike certainly deserves respect, because at 2,363 m it is one of the highest grass mountains in Europe. But the panorama has it all, because the fantastic view includes an impressive 266 three-thousand-meter peaks in the entire national park region and the Kitzbühel Alps. Incidentally, the start is in Stuhlfelden, just over ten kilometers from the Hotel Bräurup in Mittersill, at the Bürglhütte at 1,700 m above sea level. Of course, you can also hike up from the center of the village past the Saueck chapel, but in view of the great challenge that follows, this should only be tackled if you are more physically fit.
Alpine skills are a must!
But now for the hike on the Gaisstein in Stuhlfelden itself, because once you have arrived at the Bürglhütte, it will be really exciting. Here you can expect an impressive 667 meters in altitude over a length of 5.7 km. The landscape and the view are a dream, but the steadily rising hiking trail can be quite tricky. After a short junction to the right, keep to the left on the path that leads to the summit of the Gaisstein. The ascent and descent, especially in the summit area, involve a certain risk of falling. Therefore, you should only tackle this tour with sufficient alpine skills and appropriate equipment!
The Bräurup team will be happy to advise you on the extensive range of hiking options in the Hohe Tauern National Park region and in the Kitzbühel Alps and, of course, will find numerous, even more leisurely, alternatives to this highly demanding mountain tour. Make our hotel in Mittersill your base camp for the next summer vacation – we’d be happy to create yours non-binding vacation offer !
