The clear lake is 1,313 m above sea level and is the starting point for leisurely walks and many a demanding hiking tour.

About the natural jewel Hintersee

This particularly breathtaking lake is located in the Felbertal and is picturesquely embedded between steep rock faces. Water has been flowing into the Hintersee through small and large waterfalls for thousands of years; so clear that you can even see to the bottom. The valley basin created by a rock fall is home to numerous meadow and alpine paths to and around the lake. On the north bank, a themed trail whisks you away into the diverse nature of this spot and amazes not only children’s eyes with the diversity of flora and fauna. With a little luck you can even spot rabbits, roe deer and deer.

The hike on the Hintersee in Mittersill

In addition to the numerous paths on and around the lake, there is a special tour for which you should bring a little more stamina. In about four hours it goes from Hintersee to Plattachsee and back again for 8.5 km and an altitude difference of almost 900 meters. From the Hintersee car park, the head of the valley first feels past the Schleierfall, then over the Geißstein summit and towards St. Pöltner Hütte to this second magical mountain lake. However, it is also possible to turn off beforehand without taking part in the sometimes demanding Plattachsee circuit, and to hike back to the parking lot via the serpentine, occasionally steep Trudental.
